Mexico City day 2
Still lounging in bed.
The plan for today is again riding bike in the early coolness of the day. Finish biking early enough to get back to.
I have 2 goals. First leave Mexico City without leaving/losing any of my stuff. Second, make it onto the plane.
I again got a bike and rode, mostly the same direction as yesterday, unintentionally. I set my maps to go to the Museo National de Antropologia. It just happen to be next to Chapultepec where I went yesterday. I knew there was a chance it would be closed. It was. To bad, the museum is amazing. I had a good ride anyway. Even slightly more than yesterday. The total for the 2 days almost 80 km.
During my ride today I also past by the Palacio de Bellas Artes. I had been there on earlier trips to Mexico City so I did not visit this time. I have never been to performance there though. Next to Bellas Artes is a really nice park area that I sat in for awhile.
I got back to the hostel in time to take a shower, pack my bags and check out on time.
I was only 12 noon and yesterday I saw a seafood restaurant that perked my interest for fish tacos. It was closed yesterday but I went there today for a very tasty fish taco.
If you are an architecture buff either historic or modern, Mexico City has alot to offer. Museums? There are about 173 museums in the city. Walk/Shop/Visit Museums till you drop.
Because I now had my bag with me. (I should have left it at the hostal). I caught an early Uber to the airport. Boring. If I would have left my back at the hostal, I could have spent a few more hours exploring the streets of Mexico City.
On arrival at the airport, I got through all the pre flight formalities including filling out an online customs declaration for Guatemala, then through security.
Getting to the airport early, my departure gate was not yet posted, so I just sat and sat and sat, trying to post to this blog. My interet connection was bad there and Blogger refused to connect to an unsecure network. So games and Duolingo it was.
Finally I got gate information. So I headed that way, stopping along the way to have a delicious sandwich, knowing that would be my last opportunity to eat for the day. It was during this time that I had to get ride of the 2nd bag I was carrying. To to this, I had to layer clothing. It was a squeeze, but I was able to get all my remaining stuff into my 1 blue bag.
Luckily sitting at this gate, I checked gate information again. Yes, the gate changed to an even further gate. Lucky for me in the same direction. I am sure I walked at least a half a mile just to get to the gate. The last, furthest gate.
I hear my name called to come to the podium. At that point, I am told, because I am a permanent resident, I needed to get my passport stamped at immigration. This added, it seemed like another 1/4 mile of walking at a fast pace to get my passport stamped. By the time I got back bording had just started.
I'm still alittle nervous that I may be called out for my overstuffed "personal item", but I made it onto the plane without issue.
The flight to Guatemala is about 2 hours. During the flight I am thinking I made it out of Mexico without leaving anything behind. Not so fast, I put my hat in the back of seat pocket in the airplane and managed to leave it on the plane. lol.
On arrival in Guatemala City, I made it through immigration and customs without issue. One minor problem was that I didn't see an ATM before I got outside. Lucky for me a friend at the library back in Oaxaca had bequeathed me her left over Quetzal, the Guatemalan currency. This was enough for me to pay for not only the taxi to my new home for couple nights, but also for my accomodations.
Speaking of accomodations, the place has a nice common areas, a pool, and breakfast included. But, the bed I apparently signed up for is the most basic I have ever slept in. You enter from the end of the bed, it like an oversized coffin. But that didn't prevent me from going to bed almost immediately and falling asleep. Good night!

It is good that you are setting reasonable goals. 👍
