San José, Costa Rica day 1

I did sleep in a little longer today because of the late arrival last night.  The good thing about that is I didn't have to wait for coffee and breakfast. Breakfast was already being served.

I checked in with Volaris (the airline I have a travel pass with). Bummer, no seats are available in the the next 3 days to fly to Lima, my next stop. I wanted to leave on the April 12. I will have to check later today to see if I can get a seat on Saturday, April 13. This will cut 1 day our my Lima stay. This is not a problem because I will be coming back to Lima after my time .

Well it appears that Volaris has eliminated the service between San Jose and Lima.

I had this whole post written, I moved off the page to grab a photo. Poof! It was gone. Note to self: remember to click Update before leaving. OK, start again.

Initiate plan B, C or.....

  • I could use the extra ticket I bought to board my flight out of Guatemala.
  • Look for other alternates flights
  • Look for other routing on Volaris.
Checking Volaris it looks like I can fly back to Mexico City from here, then fly to Lima. This is the option I'll go with. I will fly to Mexico City in the afternoon on Friday arriving in Mexico City early enough to catch a redeye night flight to Lima. I will only lose a half day in Lima and it is the least expensive option.  Booked and locked it.

Next task on my to do list. Buy a SIM card.

I walked down, apparently in the wrong direction. After wandering around, I returned to the hostel to check Google maps again. Yep, wrong direction.

Lucky I cam back when I did, the sky broke and there a pretty strong rain.

By this time it is past noon and thinking about lunch. A fellow traveler, who also happens to be from the Detroit area, says he has a favorite lunch place down the street. The rain has stopped so we head out to lunch. I will continue the SIM search later. (Update!)

I had a nice plate of stewed chicken, beans and rice, and steamed veggies. To drink, guanabana water. In Hawaii and the pacific, called Soursop.

Next to the lunch place there was a small store that sold SIM cards. They didn't have the brand I wanted, but I bought one anyway. Unfortunately in failed to install on my phone.

Back at the hostel, the host said he also had cards available. He installed one for me, success.

It remained cloudy and rainy for the rest of the day. This is the time I used to write the ill fated, disappearing original post. (Update!).

The rest of the day spent lounging, reading.

Next stop: Bed, Buenos Noches, zzzzzzzzzzz
