Arrive back in Iquuitos
I have a couple days to fill in. I was on the boat again for a few days. This time, the internet wasn't the problem, It was my phone. The charging jack was giving me a problem and I was not able to charge easily
We arrived in Nauta late last night. About half the passengers disembarked here. There was also a lost of cargo to unload. We got back underway to Iquitos about 11 pm. I thought that would be our last stop.
I woke up in time to see the sunrise this morning.
We ended up having to make one more stop, early this morning at Tamshiyacu where they unloaded a mountain of 50 kilo bags. Probably enough to fill a 40' container. All off loaded on shoulders of the dock workers and up a steep hill to a waiting truck.
After about 2 hours, the captain of the boat got impatient and told them to quicken the pace. That helped a lot. The crew size doubled and instead of taking the bags all the way up the hill, they started piling them on the river bank.

This trip took longer than everyone on board expected. What we thought would be 2 days on the river, turned into 3 days. The first delay was to load heavy cargo at Puerto Internacional Yurimaguas. This is a new port facility for loading cargo to heavy to load by hand. A delay of moore than 5 hours. I The second delay was our overnight stop. My guess is that we were coming into an area of the river that because of low water levels was not safe to navigate night. This was a 7 hour delay. The next was an sevral hours at Nauta and the last was as several hours off loading them mountain of bags at Tamashiyacu. Adding all these together, we were delayed a full day. For me, with my open schedule, it was not important. For others that had pre-booked hostels and multi day jungle adventures, they were either late making their connections or lost they completely.
Back underway, we finally arrived in Iquitos about 12:30 pm. We parked right next to the boat that I had put my 1st hammock and a few other things on. I saw while we were docking, that my hammock was not were I had put it. As soon as the boat was fully tied down, I went to check if they had my things. No such luck.
After that, the way off the boat was a narrow, very steep plank. There was no way I was going to be able to manage that without falling. I waited for a couple helping hands, one on the boat and one on land to help me navigate the plank.
From there, the next task was to check on my next and final boat to Leticia, Colombia. I used the last of the coins I had in my pocket to go to a nearby port from which the Leticia boats board. I found out the next boat will depart tomorrow evening. This is good with me, I have some tasks to do in Iquitos.
The tuk-tuk dropped my off at the Flying Dog Hostel. The same hostel I stayed at last week before heading off to Yurimaguas. Yeah, for a first floor room with a bottom bunk.
I had a few important things to do. Get money from an ATM, go to a cellphone repair shop and see it I could buy a new keyboard. In that order.
I found and ATM and withdrew the last of the money I will need in Peru. I will arrive in Colombia in a few days and will have to get Columbian Pesos when I arrive there.
I was hoping that the charging port on my phone could be cleaned, but the repair shop said it was broken and had to be replaced. He had the part and the repair would only take about an hour. I used this time to look for a new keyboard. The repair shop directed me to another shop just a couple stores down.
I found a bluetooth keyboard. Most of the shops only had wired keyboards. It was only then that I discovered I had left my wallet at the hostel. Lucky for me, the walk back was only about 4 blocks. I retrieved my wallet, went back to buy the keyboard, then back to phone repair shop.
My phone was ready, I just had to wait for a few minutes for the adhesive to cure.
Money in my pocket, a repaired phone and a new keyboard, I decided to celebrate with a cold beer. Accuweather said it was 87 degrees but feels like 98 degrees. I can believe it. It was sweltering.
Back at hostel, took a cold shower to try to cool down and then take a siesta. Not a good siesta, it was too hot.
Later in the evening, I was able to start typing again, without backspacing and making corrections caused by a crazy keyboard.
Incomplete more to come
