Iquitos to Yurimaguas day 1

My first night of sleep was not the best. When I did sleep, it was in 1 1/2 hours stretches. Unlike the first time on the Amazon 2 years ago, there were mosquitos. They were going after my ankles and fingers. Long socks instead of the ankle socks that I am traveling with, would have helped. I did put on a little repellant. I will put on more tonight.

I woke up before 6 this morning, but it was too overcast to see any sunset. The boat ride itself is pretty calming and other than the constant drone of the engine (not at all annoying, much less so than the drone of the engines while flying), it is quite.

I did see my first pink river dolphin this morning.

Right now I am sitting on a bench at the front of the passenger area of the boat watching the forest go by.

Breakfast call comes at 6 am. Everyone proceeds down to the galley on the lower deck. Breakfast is a whitish soup, maybe rice, flavored with  cloves, a couple rolls and a stewed plantain.

The boat travels so slowly, it hardly causes any wake. I have a speedometer on  my phone. I clocked the speed at less than 8 mph.

We pass by endless forest only seperated by the occational village or house.

Not finished, more edits to come
