Iquitos to Yurimaguas day 2
I would like to say I had a wonderful nights sleep, but that would be a lie.
The first problem is going to sleep too early. Once the sun goes down there little to see and bedtime comes too early.Because I was in a light sleep, I had to get up almost every hour during the night to pee.
I did find a more comfortable position to sleep in than last night.
We also made a couple brief stops in the middle of the night either to drop someone off or one time to pick up a couple more bunches of bananas.
Breakfast call was at 7 am. I had been up for awhile and saw the sunrise, but it was pretty obstructed by clouds.
Today's breakfast was like a rice soup seasoned with cloves. I took the oatmeal I brought with me, added it to the rice soup to stiffen it up a bit. As with every meal so far a stewed banana was included. What is not included or available is coffee. The boats I took 2 years ago from Leticia, Colombia to Manaus, Brazil and back always had an urn of sweet coffee to drink.
This morning the boat made a couple stops. One was to drop off a young couple at a village along with materials to build a house. They also had a large whiteboard, so maybe one of them is a new teacher for the village.
Even deep in the rain forest, people love soccer, This one is pretty elaborate. Maybe where they hold regional matches.
I haven't seen as many "Adventure Camps" as I saw yesterday. But then it is just approaching 11 am so it is still early in the day.
We have passed several small banana groves.
Heavy squalls seemed to be accompanied by high winds. When they happen, it's all hands3
on deck to drop the tarps on the sides of the passenger areas. In just a matter of seconds it can go from calm to cauos. Hanging cloths can go flying and the rain soaking the metal deck up to 10 feet inside.
I believe we have left the Amazon River and are now on the Maranon River.
This picture shows a typical landing. In it you can steps dug into the mud/clay of the river bank. It also shows that even local residence cannot control the river. You see a concrete road coming to the river, but over time, the rivers course has changed and parts of the road have fallen into the river.
You have seen my sleeping area on the boat. I thought I should show you the bathing and toilets. Prepare yourself. lol
Maybe I will post those pictures tomorrow. Let your imagination percolate for a day.
