Leticia, Colombia day 3

Good morning again from Leticia, Columbia.

The good news is that my keyboard healed itself overnight, not 100 percent, but useable.

This morning I will head out to the market early during it's most active time of the day.

I left the hostel this morning after breakfast and walked to the market area. On the way I past this mural. I thought it appropriate for the area that is so dependant on nature.

On the street leading to river area I past this shop selling much needed items for this area, hammocks and mosquito nets.

Arriving at the street running along the river the streets were backed up with cars, trucks, tuk-tuks and motorbikes. The street was lined with vendors sellng all sorts of prepared foods, vegetables and fresh fish of all shapes and sizes. My first stop was to buy  an iced fresh passion fruit juice.

So much freshly caught fish. I expect from overnight and this morning. Some so fresh, the fish were still squirming around. All shapes and sizes.

I saw one vendor with crocodile on the grill. I would have ordered some, but it wasn't ready yet. Probably tastes like chicken.

Moving off the street I went into the market building. The first area was all fruits and vegetables. I bought  papaya,a small bunch of the mini bananas and  small bag of manderin oranges.

I saw other fruits I was familiar with from Hawaii, mountain apples and star fruit.

Continuing into the market past the fresh poutry section.

And even further into the market to the fish section. There were even more wierd fish that you don't see many places outside the amazon.

I started the walk back to the hostel and came across a vendor selling these delicacies. I haven't seen anyone here eating them, but I did see them eaten on Siberut Island off the wet coast of Sumatra. The mother roasted them wrapped inside leaves. The small children could hardly contain themselves while they were cooking and when done, they quickly grabbed them and scarfed them down like they were candy.

Passing by the park on the way back to the hostel I saw this pond of huge lily pads.

The pads are bout 3' in diameter
