Yurimaguas, back to Iquitos day 1

The boat, Eduardo I is supposed to leave today at mid day.

I woke early to do a little work on the blog

One other guy staying at the Albina woke up soon after me and is also headed to the port to catch today's boat to Iquitos. The plan was to go to the port first to make sure the boat was still there and still planning to sail today.  After dropping our stuff at the boat, we would look for a place to eat breakfast.

We arrived at th port about 8:30, and yes, praise to the guardian of the universe, the boat was still in port.

Boarding ahead of us is a herd of cows, more than a few chickens and mountain of eggs.

First thing as to choose a place to hang hammocks, that done we had to decide where to go for breakfast. The decision was to go into centro to get food.

I was anxious the whole time because I didn't trust the sailing time told to us by the boat. Can you blame me?

We settled on a restuarant, by this time our group had expanded to 5 which complicated things a little. We ordered our food. I thought maybe it would be a good idea to buy our take away food for later in the day while our breakfast was being prepared. We found another restaurant nearby to buy take away and also a bakery to buy a bag of rolls for the trip.

Getting back to the breakfast place, they hadn't even started cooking our breakfast. I told them our boat is leaving today not tomorrow. trying to light a fire under them. The plan was to have a relaxing breakfast sitting down, as it happened we had to tell them to pack our food for take away (para llavar).

I took a tuk-tuk back to the boat by myself. My anxiety level rising.

I got back to the port in plenty of time and just made one last stop to by an extra bottle of water and a spoon.

What I failed to do was buy any fresh fruit.

A lady did board the boat selling green mango slices, so at least I have something. Maybe I can buy other fruits on the way.

I am not the oldest person on board. I saw this older gentleman on board. It gives me more confidence that I have at least one more adventure in me, maybe more, even if my movements are slowing down to sloth speed.

It is now 12:03 pm and we have just gotten underway. YeeHaa!

We are currently approaching the place where the earlier boat I was on the Linares, ran aground. Wish us luck.

We made it past the sand bar, very causiously.
