Bogota day 6
Good Morning!
I got fully caught up on m journalling yesterday, so this morning I didn't have to do much writing.
Traveling at this level, staying in hostels, you meet a whole cast of characters. Some really interesting and others not so. The talkers and the anti-social that just grunt when greeted. The experienced and newie travelers. The leisure travelers and the digital nomads. The sane and crazies.
The best ones are the ones that not only share their travel experiences and recommendations for places to stay and things to do, but are also interested to hear other peoples stories to. These are the people and conversations that you don't experience when staying in private rooms and hotels.
Yes, the downside is you have to deal with a few crazies, unpredictable accomodations, cold showers (occasionally), lack of privacy and sometimes kitchens that stretch the meaning of the word. But, for dealing with these things you are rewarded by meeting some really interesting people and at time people to spend time with touristing and eating out together.
I am down to my last couple nights of hostel life. Then I am off to California to visit friends in Sonoma. That will be like the cherry on top of the ice cream for this trip.
After Sonoma, I will be returning to Mexico City where I may need to stay in a hostel for a day or 2 before returning to Oaxaca around August 1.
Today, I will again be back to bike riding. I will most likely take the cable car to the top of Monserat to see the panoramic view of the city. Dave was also planning to do this at sometime, but he was considering walking up and down. I'll get enough exercise just getting to the cable car station at the bottom of the hill.
Days recap.
I know when I start having "do nothing days", it is time to move on. Today wasn't exactly a do nothing day, but close.
I went to restaurant to get my included with accomodations breakfast. I banged on the door a bit and nobady responded, so I ended up at a small restaurant and had to pay for my own breakfast. booohooo.
After, I got a bike (not electric) and road towards the centro area. I only went as far as the Modern Art Museum, parked the bike, found a place to sit and people watch. When I got tired of people watching, I got another bike and road back to the hostel where I did more "do nothing".
I knew I shouldn't have, but later in the evening I returned to the pizza shop that I ate at before. I like the earlier pizza so much that I just ordered the same one again.
I know I shouldn't have, but on the way back from the pizza shop, there is a pastry shop that I pass almost every day, tempting me with delicious looking pastries, cakes and cookies. I know from living in Mexico these pasties, cakes and cookies are not always as delicious as they appear. Never the less, today I succumbed. I past on the cakes, (which was probably a mistake) and bought a Flan topped with a cherry to take back to the hostel to eat.
The so called flan was not flan. I love flan, but this was not flan. I refer you to the previous paragraph. However, I did eat the whole thing.
