Honda day 2
I have been struggling to find a place to sit that has internet access. It seems to be pretty spotty here in Honda. It makes it hard to do my daily postings.
Honda is a small town. Most people could easily walk to see most of the city highlights in a day. Unfortunately, I am not most people. Because my knees are in such bad shape, I have a limited number of steps I can do comfortably each day. So what most can do in 1 day, for me it takes 3.There is a craftsman, outdoor enthusiast, and biking enthusiast that has a shop nearby where he makes wooded bicycles. My plan for today is to visit his shop and then fill out the day in centro doing the activity that requires less walking, that will be eating.
Yesterday, I did see a street vendor that makes Bogota style salpicon. The salpicon sold in Medellin was made with larger pieces of fruit and less variety of fruit, mostly watermelon. I will be trying one today and report later.
I did take a taxi out to the wooden bike maker. He started making wooden bikes about 6 years ago. He also makes furniture. I met both Juan Manuel Linares Hernández and his father at his shop just outside of Honda. He rents these wooded bikes and as well as standard mountain bikes. The wooden bike he rents for 25,000 Columbian Peso for an hour, about $6 usd. The mountian bikes for 20,000 per hour about $5 usd. I wasn't ready for a ride so we just chatted for about 30 minutes before Iheadedback to Honda.
In Honda centro, I did go back to get a salpicon. The salpicon in Honda is made like the salpicon I had 2 years ago in Bogota. Made with a larger variety of fruit; strawberry, banana, papaya, mango, pear and sometimes cherry, cut in very small pieces. Either watermellon juice or strawberry juice is then added. In Medellin the salpicon is heavy on the watermelon and the fruit cut in larger pieces. Optionally some vendors offer to top off with a scoop of ice cream.
Salipcon is sold be street vendors. They will have a large container of salpicon with large blocks of floating ice to keep it cold. Very refreshing.
It was there I saw these guys out shopping with their pet pig. I made the judgem6ent that they were gay. What straight guys would have a pet pig and much less, go to the market with it. The pig liked smelling my shoes and was resistant to leave.
Here are a few other miscellaneous pictures from around Honda.
I will be leaving Honda a day early to get away from the heat and mosquitos. I will taking a bus to Bogota tomorrow where hopefully I have a better connection to complete the journalling for the past few days.
