Da Nang, Vietnam - Day 3
Good Morning,
Wow, I just looked back and I haven't event completed the posts from Da Nang Day 1 or 2 yet and here I am starting a post for day 3.
It actually takes a bit of time to write and add pictures in the blog. So not having time to update the blog is a good thing. It means I am too busy being out of the home stay and actually doing and seeing things.
This morning I was experimenting and practicing with my Obsbot Tail Air, trying to get to the point that I could set it up and actually have it do what I want it to on the first try. I am not there yet.
I rented a motor scooter yesterday afternoon, it is not due back until 2 pm today, so I have time to buzz around alittle this morning.... The morning is slipping away quickly, it is already 11:30.
There is no breakfast where I am staying so the first stop was to get something to eat. I decided on a street restaurant that I ate at a couple days ago. Right across from the beach so I have a great view and slight breeze off the ocean. It has a limited menu and many things I am too scared to try like pig ear salad, lemon grass chicken feet and fried fish balls to name a few.I ordered fried noodle. I forgot ordered the same dish last time until I saw the the meat in the fried noodles was pieces of hotdog. Then I remembered, not my favorite thing. The Vietnames iced coffee and Passion Fruit juice were good though.
As I mentioned earlier, this beach is huge. It is also very diverse. There is fishing, paddle boarding, surfing, hang gliding, swimming and just relaxing and tanning areas.
After I road up and down the seaside for a bit.
Passing by the fishing area. There are 3 boats anchored close by and many of the bath tub type boats (one seen in the foreground). I think they are used as tenders and well as for setting nets close to shore.
I ventured into smaller neighborhood for a bit before heading back to the homestay.
Let me tell you a bit about homestays/backpackers/hostles. They are all different and you are never completely sure of what they will be like until you arrive. Sometimes the other travelers are chatty and engaging while others the other travelers are private and stand offish, and everything in between. Some have nice comfy common areas, other very little. The place I am at now, it is a mix, some friendly travelers and others just grunt if you greet them. At least there are cusioned chairs here with small tables that are convenient to sit and do computer updates.
I have been staying at higher rated places, so for the most part the beds are adequate, and the bathrooms modern and relatively clean. I typically book shared rooms. These are much cheaper from $3 to $11 usd per night. Private rooms start at about $23 or $24 usd per night. Oh yeah, you can spend much more even in Vietnam with 4 and 5 star hotels costing as much or more that $500 per night. Not in my budget.
So although not ideal, home stays make it possible for me to travel within my budget.
It however is not the only reason. Depending on the home stay, conversations with other travelers are a huge benefit of choosing this type of accomodation. Sometimes the conversations are so engaging, you almost forget to go out and explore.
