Da Nang, Vietnam - Day 1
Good Morning!
For the first time on my trip, I am staying at a place that does not offer breakfast. Luckily it does a very small kitchenette. I brought both coffee and rooibos tea with me so I was able to make coffee and tea to drink while checking the web and updating this blog.
Da Nang is strict about renting and driving motor bikes. It is not legal to rent or drive motorbikes with over a 50 cc engine. But, electiric scooters are readily available to rent and can be driven without a Vietnamese license. I have arranged to rent one for today and possibly tomorrow. I consulted with Chatgbt to recommend a travel route for day.
I ordered a motor scooter from the place I am staying. These electric scooters are made in Vietnam.
Vietnam is very proud of there electric vehicle industry. The company is called Vinfast. They make a variety of electric cars as well as several models of motor scooters. Most the Grab taxis I book are electric. Grab also has gas vehicle options.
I often think about the current attitude in the US and with this administration, that the US is quickly being left behind. Not only with electric vehicles but also wind and solar energy. Other countries, especially China are moving full speed ahead with advanced techologies related to electric vehicles, wind, solar and also high speed rail. The reflex the short term thinking of the US compared to long term thinking and planning of other countries.
OK, back to blogging. The first stop was to get coffee and find something to eat.
Later I headed further out on the pennisula. Following the beach on the right past pristine beach and then the fleet of fishing boats. You can't miss the fishing area, your nose will let you know. Very fishy.
I continued out on the peninsula finally coming to a temple with a 7 story pagoda and a huge white buddha statue. It was a lot of steps to get a closer view of the buddha and the pagoda. I didn't go up.
The buddha is 220 feet tall, very impressive. The 7 story pagoda is close to 90 feet tall.
