Mường Hoa, Sapa Day 1
Good Morning,
Happy to see the weather has cleared up a bit. I can actually see the mountain across the valley from Peace Home. My home for the next few days. Very low key.I had a very comfortable nights sleep. Luckily my bed had an electric bed warmer. It isn't that cold, but with the rain and drizzle, it feels colder.I am loving it. This is much more my element than staying in the big city. Sapa is also a busy little city, but I am outside of Sapa about a 30 minute drive in an outlying village.
I am setup by a table on the first floor restaurant by the window enjoying a bowl of noodles with green onion and egg. Along with my morning cup of coffee. This will also be my table of choice to stay connected with the world and do my daily journaling while I am here.
Roosters crowing, a lady hearding her quaking ducks into a nearby pond.
After breakfast I took a walk, downhill from Peace Home. During my walk. Several more homes with chickens and ducks.
Plenty of street dogs, but they are pretty chill.
This area is largely populated by the Mường ethnic group. One of 53 ethnic groups in Vietnam. They live in the northern mountainous regioin of the country.
I also came across a small group of cows lounging by the side of the road. I think the proper name for these animals is H'Mong cattle
I encountered my first street handicraft sellers. I didn't recognize the first for a little bit. The conversation started. "How are you?", "Where you from?", "Walking?", "I walk with you". That went on for about a 1/2 a block, then she revealed herself. "Basket heavy". She sat the basket down and moved the plastic aside to reveal a basket full of small woven items. "I walk with you, you buy from me?" Repeated No Thankyou's from me, she finally relinquished, realizing I really was not going to buy anything. Later I came across 4 or 5 more ladies. Same approach, "How are you?, Where you from? etc. I have bought handicrafts before, but I have no idea where they are now. Also, it is very early in an extended trip and anything I buy now I would have to lug around for the reast of my trip, that could be 3 more months or even longer.
